Bravura London: A Review

Wednesday, February 03, 2016

If you follow my Skin School facebook or Instagram page, you may have seen a while ago that I purchased some of the Bravura London skincare range. I have wanted to try these products for a long time now, after reading great reviews on them. They specialise mainly in acid products, at a really reasonable price tag!

At first, I was skeptical of the products because of the price tag. I know that sounds silly, but normally, to have good quality products, particularly acids, they cost £20+. I thought, "what's the catch? Why are they so cheap?" But when I looked at the ingredients I was pleasantly surprised to see there was nothing in the products that put me off!

I went ahead and bought the Salicylic Acid and Lactic Acid treatments, as I already have my Alpha H Liquid Gold which contains glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is sort of an all rounder for everyone, and is better for anti-ageing results as it boosts collagen, whereas these are more 'targeted' for specific concerns and skin types.
These are both acid peel treatments, which deeply exfoliate the skin, leaving it smoother and clearer. I also bought the application brush to use with these products, as the brush provides an even application of the product.

There is a common thought that anything containing 'acid' will leave your skin red and peeling and sore for days afterwards, or that you won't be able to leave the house for looking awful..(has anyone seen the episode of Sex & The City when Samantha gets a chemical peel?) That's not true! These types of at home peels are nowhere near as strong as professional ones, and as long as you follow the instructions correctly you won't end up with redness.

Lactic Acid 10%
The lactic acid treatment is great for dry and dehydrated skin, and is thought to be more gentle on the skin than glycolic or salicylic acid, as our bodies naturally produce lactic acid. Lactic acid is derived from sour milk and it has been used for years, I'm sure we've all heard the story of Cleopatra bathing in milk because it was good for her skin? This one would be a good one to start with if you're not sure which one to go for. It's only £9.59 and is available here.

Salicylic Acid 2%
This one is brilliant for acne, spots, blackheads, oily skin and large pores. The strength is lower (2%) because salicylic acid is stronger than other acids, so needs to be in lower concentrations to be used on the skin, because of this lower percentage it means it can be used more often than other acids.
This is again, £9.59 and is available here.

Firstly, if you have sensitive skin or have suffered any reactions to skincare before, I'd recommend a patch test first.
These are both advised to be used in the same way, you apply a thin layer onto clean skin using the applicator brush, and leave it on for 5 minutes for the first few times you use them, and then you increase the time up to 10 minutes after the first few uses. It's a bit like the way you'd use a facemask. Then, once the time is up, you just rinse it off with warm water to neutralise the acid and stop it working. I'd say that these are more of an 'effort' to use compared to Alpha H liquid gold, because you have to apply them and remove the, whereas with liquid gold you just apply it and leave it on overnight. As far as I know, you can't do that with these products.
The results are instant, your skin feels so much softer and your pores are much tighter and less visible.

Overall, I would definitely recommend these products! The price tag is unbelievable for the quality of the products, they do not test on animals and the director of the company has been in the beauty industry for years, which is great as she is passionate and knows what she's talking about. She also is from Wales, and has a great blog here.

Next on my wishlist from the Bravura range is one of their toners, and moisturisers!
