Men's Skin: Part 2

Sunday, April 03, 2016

Following on from my last post, today I'm going to list some recommendations for moisturisers for men. All of these products are suitable for women to use too, I don't believe any skincare products are strictly male/female, they are unisex.

Another cleanser I'd like to recommend that I meant to include in my last post, is the Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash, £29.50.

This is what my boyfriend is currently using, I also like to use this sometimes as a morning cleanser. It's really transformed his skin, he suffers with breakouts and also dry patches, and has a little bit of acne scarring, and this has really helped clear his skin up. It's sulphate free, but lathers very well so is easy to use in the shower. It's non abrasive, and contains three enzymes (Subtilisine, protease and papain) to break down dead skin cells, improve cell renewal, get rid of scarring and pigmentation, and help reveal clearer, softer skin.
It also contains white truffle to soothe the skin, and babassu oil to nourish and replenish moisture levels. It's acid free, so is great for anyone who has issues or reactions with that. This one is great for all skin types, it smells amazing, and I like to leave it on for a couple of minutes before I rinse it off, to really let it work. As you can probably tell, I'm a big fan of this one!
I think cleansers that contain some kind of exfoliating enzymes or acids, are a brilliant option for men, as it means they don't have to put the effort into actually exfoliating separately using something else.

Moisturisers
It's very difficult to find a moisturiser that is inexpensive, and doesn't contain silicone or paraffin/mineral oil (these ingredients are cheap, and just sit on the skin, blocking the pores and not letting the skin breathe). Please read my moisturisers post for more information on what ingredients to look for.
I've trawled all over the internet, in Boots, etc and had no luck finding any under the price of around £10.00 (you get what you pay for with skincare, you see.)

Superfacialist by Una Brennan, Rose Hydrate Radiance Day Cream £9.99

This is the most affordable one I could find, it's paraffin free, as well as silicone free so it doesn't block the pores. It's suitable for most skin types, dehydrated, dry and sensitive, although I would say this one is best to avoid for acne prone, oily skin, as it contains shea butter, and the SPF included can also be a little greasy feeling. It's not amazing, but it'll do if you're on a tight budget.

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Fluid, £15.00

This one has very little ingredients, it's extremely unfussy, in a good way. It's a very lightweight fluid consistency as the name suggests, leaves no residue on the skin, and is excellent for sensitive skin prone to reactions, due to the small amount of ingredients included. It's fragrance free, silicone free and paraffin free, and it's very hygienic due to the pump dispenser, meaning you don't have to keep dipping your fingers into it. A very good, simple, inexpensive option.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser, £16.00

This one reminds me of the Origins Ginzing Energy Boosting Moisturiser, the ingredients are slightly similar, and the smell is nearly the same, a fresh citrus, orangey smell. This is a light, gel-cream texture, that doesn't leave the skin feeling oily, as it doesn't contain silicone or mineral oil. A good budget option.

Origins Balanced Diet Lightweight Moisture Lotion, £24.00
Balanced Diet™
This is a lovely, lightweight milky watery texture, that absorbs easily into the skin, and it has a very light minty scent. It's silicone and mineral oil free so it won't block the pores, however it does contain shea butter which can be slightly heavy on very oily skin, this is more suited to those who suffer with a bit of dryness.

Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Jelly, £24.99

I mentioned this in my 'moisturisers' post, this is one of my favourite moisturisers, and my boyfriends too. It's actually a very good price point for what it is, a moisturiser containing these ingredients is normally a lot more expensive. I have recommended this one many times, I love it.
It's easily available in (most) Boots stores. It's a gel texture, very light in consistency, with no scent, and contains hyaluronic acid, which is brilliant for dehydration and that 'tight' feeling. It has a pump dispenser which is excellent hygiene wise, rather than dipping your fingers into a pot. The only thing I don't like about this is that you can't tell when you're going to run out.

Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief, £34.00
Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
This is very much a cult favourite amongst bloggers, and for good reason. I alternate between this and some of my other moisturisers, this is another of my favourites, this and the hydraluron one. It's a lovely gel-cream texture, with a very light fresh scent, and gives immediate relief to dehydrated skin, and it feels very cooling on the skin which would be great after shaving. It leaves your skin feeling bouncy and hydrated throughout the day. Unlike most of Clinique's other moisturisers, it's mineral oil and silicone free, so won't clog the pores which is great for oily, spot prone skin.

Elemis SOS Survival Cream, £46.00

This one is amazing on dry, stressed, irritated, skin. This one is quite a thick consistency, so is more suited for drier skin during the day, but is great for oily, spot prone skin to use at night. It's amazing on spots, and gives immediate relief after outdoor activities or when the skin is feeling parched. You can use this for all sorts of things, insect bites, stings, burns, and it's great for redness and shaving rash. The formulation is nearly the same as the Elemis SOS emergency cream, which is one of my all time favourite moisturisers to use at night.

What products do you swear by for men? I'd love to know!
